BLACK AND DECKER SITE REDESIGN

OBJECTIVE

BLACK & DECKER tools are long lasting and forever updating to match the needs of professionals and casual do-it-your-selfers. B+D's site is starting to experience more mobile traffic and is looking to capture users in that mobile experience. The objective is to bring refresh B+D's design and build their responsive site onto a flexible CMS so it too is long lasting and up to date like it's tools.

A portion of the new BLACK & DECKER site is dedicated to casual tinkerers and do-it-your-selfers. MyBLACK+DECKER is a community platform for those users to share, interact and learn from each other and from BLACK & DECKER. I was tasked to design this digital experience in a smooth, friendly to use execution. The MyBLACK+DECKER experience should integrate seamless with the rest of the BLACK+DECKER site.

MY ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

My role as the UX Architect was to gather the project requirements of this project and execute a prototype that communicates the intent and experience of the MyBLACK+DECKER site. This included understanding the needs of the users and stakeholders and working closely with Verndale's strategy and design team. I was also tasked with a technical discovery to understand the workings of Pluck, a third party application that allows us to create this experience.

A competitive analysis was performed to see how this consumer segment interacts with the brand and it's followers in the digital space. From there, I created an interactive prototype with Axure that allowed BLACK & DECKER to experience our execution of the MyBLACK+DECKER site. Once approved, I provided oversight to the design on this site.
